Cheesy Sounds Of Al Adamson

Al Adamson directed some quality grindhouse schlock back in the '70s and the following compilation celebrates the cheesy and queezy sounds of his films. Gasp to Don McGinnes' Angels Wild Women theme! Scream to William Lava's epic theme to Dracula Vs. Frankenstein! Groove to the wild Harley Hatcher jams for Satan's Sadists!

There was already a compilation floating around with a similiar name but I had some trouble finding it so here it is... again. I've added some additional themes (Brain Of Blood was, well, a 'a no-brainer') as well as an audio rip of producer and friend Sam Sherman having a chat about Al.

As an afterthought, maybe I should have included that stupid metal man thing from Cinderella 2000..?

Peter Bark Vs. The Odd Wiggle

Has anyone else noticed the alarming similarity between Peter Bark (zombie incest kid tit muncher from Burial Ground) and Red Wiggle (Murray Cook, or as I like to call him, 'the odd wiggle')? No? Must be just me then...

Radio Spots From Hell

Horror Film Radio Spots - As much as I love trailers, radio spots really had to go that extra mile to seize a listener's attention. Shrieks and howls are common, but it's the hyperbole of the narrators that really managed to 'sell the sizzle'. Most of these tracks first surfaced thanks to the efforts of Mike Vraney's 'Something Weird Video'. Back in the days of VHS (remember that?), Something Weird gave away radio trailer comps on audio cassette with any of their utterly amazing trailer tapes. I still have fond memories of subjecting one and all to the gory delights of the Blood-O-Rama Shriek Show trailer compilation during my 18th birthday.

I've managed to locate some extra tracks that I considered 'essential' for any horror compilation (that means more Fulci, early Cronenberg & grindhouse standards) and converted them to MP3 to make this the ultimate horror radiothon:

Abby / Amityville Horror / And Now The Screaming Starts / Astro Zombies / Asylum Of The Insane / Basket Case / Beyond The Door / Black Christmas / Blood Drinkers / Blood Feast / Blood Mania / Blood Rose + The Body Stealers / Blood-O-Rama Shock Show / Blood Voyage / Boris Karloff Festival / The Brainiac + Curse Of The Crying Woman / The Brood / Cannibal Girls + Raw Meat / The Corpse Grinders + Undertaker & His Pals + The Embalmer / The Crawling Thing + Creature Of Evil / Creature From Black Lake / The Creeping Flesh / The Crimson Cult + Horror House / Cry Of The Banshee / Crypt Of Dark Secrets + Punch Of Death / Dawn Of The Dead / The Devil's Nightmare / The Devil's Rain + Virgin Witch / Don't Open The Window / Don't Answer The Phone / Dr Tarr's Torture Dungeon / Encounter With The Unknown / The Equinox / Eyeball + Suspiria / The Female Butcher / Flesh Feast / I Dismember Mama + The Bloodspattered Bride / Frogs / Funeral Home / Gates Of Hell / Gruesome Twosome + Something Weird / Halloween / Hell Night / Horror Marathon / Horror Of Dracula / Horror Of The Blood Monsters / Horror Of The Zombies / Horror On Snape Island / House By The Cemetery / House Of Exorcism / House That Vanished / Humanoids From The Deep / I Drink Your Blood + I Eat Your Skin / Incredible 2 Headed Transplant / Invasion Of The Blood Farmers / Lady Frankenstein / Last House On The Left / Loch Ness Horror / Man Buried Alive Horrorthon / Manmade Monster + Bloody Vampire / Maniac / Maniacs Are Loose / Mansion Of The Doomed / Mark Of The Devil / Massacre At Central High / Incredible Melting Man / Monsters Crash The Pyjama Party / Monsters A Go Go / Necromancy / Monster Show / Nurse Sherri / Paranoia / Phantasm / Rabid / Return Of Count Yorga / Sadismo / Schizoid / Scream & Scream Again / Shock Waves / Simon King Of The Witches / Something Is Out There / Spirits Of The Dead / Squirm / Suspiria / Teenage Psycho Meets Bloody Mary / The Redeemer / Theatre Of Blood / They Came From Within / They're Coming To Get You / The Toolbox Murders / Triple Terror Show / Visiting Hours / Women & Bloody Terror + Night Of Bloody Horror / Werewolves On Wheels / Zombie

7 Notes From The Crypt

For my first mixtape I proudly present 7 Notes From The Crypt - a collection of unreleased Italian schlock themes. These themes have become 'lost' to complicated copyright wrangles and a presumed lack of interest from the public. Well, here's 32 tracks for your listening pleasure - although please be aware that the audio quality varies. Many of these tracks have also been posted on other blogs (7 Black Notes, Unreleased Horror Scores, Green Inferno... all sorely missed) which have since bitten the dust. So here they are in one fresh compilation. A big 'Thank You!' for the efforts of the original rippers/bloggers. Enjoy!

1 - Baba Yaga (Piero Umiliani)
2 - Knife Of Ice (Riz Ortolani)
3 - Plot Of Fear (Bruno Lauzi)
4 - Murder Mansion (Marcello Giombini)
5 - Killer Wore Gloves (Marcello Giombini)
6 - La Bimba Di Satana (Nico Catanese)
7 - Patrick Still Lives (Berto Pisano)
8 - Great Alligator River (Guido & Maurizio De Angelis)
9 - Alien 2 (Guido & Maurizio De Angelis)
10 - Panic (Marcello Giombini)
11 - Zeder (Riz Ortolani)
12 - Hell Of The Living Dead (Gianni dell'Orso)
13 - Burial Ground (Berto Pisano)
14 - Macabro (Ubaldo Continiello)
15 - A Blade In The Dark (Guido & Maurizio De Angelis)
16 - Pieces (Stelvio Cipriani)
17 - Last Hunter (Franco Micalizzi)
18 - Endgame (Carlo Maria Cordio)
19 - After The Fall Of New York (Guido & Maurizio De Angelis)
20 - Warrior Of The Lost World (Daniele Patucchi)
21 - Rats (Luigi Ceccarelli)
22 - Raiders Of Atlantis (Guido & Maurizio De Angelis)
23 - Blastfighter (Guido & Maurizio De Angelis)
24 - Cyclone (Riz Ortolani)
25 - Man From Deep River (Daniele Patucchi)
26 - Cannibals (Roberto Pregadio)
27 - Massacre In Dinosaur Valley (Guido & Maurizio De Angelis)
28 - Cut & Run (Claudio Simonetti)
29 - Murder At Midnight (Claudio Simonetti)
30 - Washing Machine (Claudio Simonetti)
31 - Body Count (Claudio Simonetti)
32 - The Ogre (Simon Boswell)

Some things I noticed putting it together: how much of an influence Goblin had on some of these tracks (La Bimba Di Satan, Patrick Still Lives); those post-apocalyptic themes rock out in a delightfully cheesy way; Stelvio Cipriani's theme from 'Pieces' was used earlier in 'Bloodstained Shadow' and 'Convoy Busters'; and how Marcello Giombini (long overdue a 'Best Of') must have been the 'go to man' for any scuzzball film project that came along. Bless him.
